When Anew Climate announced the opening of its Singapore office in May, together with a Carbon Project Development Grant from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), it reflected a clear strategic view: Singapore is emerging as one of the most important global hubs for both low-carbon fuels and carbon markets.
Singapore at the Intersection of Two Growing Markets
Few places are as well positioned as Singapore to help shape the future of both low-carbon fuels and environmental markets.
As one of the world's leading maritime hubs and a key node on the green shipping corridor to Rotterdam, Singapore is expected to play an important role in the deployment of Bio-LNG and other lower-carbon marine fuels. Bio-LNG bunkered in Singapore can contribute toward European FuelEU Maritime compliance requirements, creating a direct link between Asian fuel supply chains and European decarbonization goals.
At the same time, Singapore has established itself as a leader in international carbon markets. The country has signed Article 6 agreements with more than ten countries and continues to support the development of projects and frameworks that facilitate cross-border carbon market activity.
These developments align closely with Anew's capabilities across low-carbon fuels and environmental markets and were central to the company's decision to establish a presence in Singapore.
Growing Demand Across Power and Maritime
Demand for lower-carbon energy solutions is accelerating across both power generation and maritime transportation.
In the power sector, the rapid growth of data centers across Asia is increasing demand for scalable, lower-carbon electricity solutions. Singapore's government has established a Sandbox pilot program focused on reducing the carbon intensity of power supplied to industrial customers and data centers. Biomethane and Bio-LNG are expected to play an important role in these efforts, and Anew is actively participating in the development of this emerging market.
In maritime transportation, demand for Bio-LNG continues to grow as shipowners respond to evolving emissions regulations, including FuelEU Maritime and forthcoming IMO decarbonization measures. For operators of LNG-fueled vessels, Bio-LNG represents one of the most practical pathways for reducing greenhouse gas emissions using existing vessel technology and infrastructure.
What Anew Brings to the Region
Establishing a presence in Singapore allows Anew to engage directly with policymakers, regulators, power generators, biomethane producers, LNG market participants, shipowners, and carbon project developers who are helping shape the future of these markets across Asia-Pacific.
It also provides regional stakeholders access to a company with extensive experience in biomethane, environmental commodities, and low-carbon fuel deployment. Anew is the world's largest independent marketer of biomethane and operates across the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations, Germany's GHG Quota, and other transportation fuel markets across North America and Europe. The company has also delivered Bio-LNG to vessels in multiple regions, including the first Bio-LNG fueling of a marine vessel in the United States.
Singapore represents the latest step in Anew's international growth. Since the formation of Anew Climate in 2022, the company has broadened its international footprint across Canada and Europe, opening or expanding offices in Budapest, Calgary, Vancouver, Munich, and Madrid while establishing a growing presence in maritime decarbonization markets.
Connecting North American Supply with Asian Demand
North American LNG production is expected to grow significantly over the coming years, creating new opportunities for exports of lower-carbon fuels, including Bio-LNG.
While Bio-LNG supply in Asia remains at an earlier stage of development, demand is advancing rapidly. This creates an opportunity to connect North American biomethane and Bio-LNG production with Asian customers in the near term while supporting the long-term growth of regional supply chains.
Anew's experience across both fuel production and environmental markets positions the company to help bridge this gap by connecting producers, fuel suppliers, transportation providers, and end users across regions.
Building the Singapore Team
Anew is building a Singapore-based team focused on low-carbon fuels, environmental markets, and maritime decarbonization. The objective is to combine local market expertise with the company's experience across North America and Europe, creating stronger connections between producers, customers, and project developers operating across global markets.
As low-carbon fuels and carbon markets continue to evolve, Singapore provides a strong base from which to support customers throughout the Asia-Pacific region and participate in the continued development of both markets.
If your organization is active in low-carbon fuels, maritime decarbonization, or carbon project development in Asia, we welcome the opportunity to connect.
